Decide first whether the books need a piece of furniture or a wall. A freestanding bookcase is solid timber, built in Wetherill Park, Sydney, open like the zig-zag American Walnut Cottesloe or glazed like the Tasmanian Oak Ross and Everton; a shelving wall is fitted as joinery.
Freestanding bookcase or built-in bookshelves: which do I need?
A freestanding bookcase is furniture: made in solid timber in the workshop, then brought in and placed, and it moves with you. Built-in bookshelves are fitted joinery, measured on site, drawn to the room and installed by Goldenwood's own crew, so they can run wall to wall and up to the ceiling.
Fitted shelving is made as standard in engineered board, finished in two-pack paint or polyurethane. A whole wall of books starts on the wall units page.
What bookcases are in the collection?
Open bookcases: the Cottesloe in American Walnut, with offset box shelves in a zig-zag; the wide Stanley Open in Tasmanian Blackwood, with asymmetric shelves and compartments; the Evandale, with nine open compartments over four drawers under a moulded cornice; and the Burnie, with open compartments over two drawers and two timber doors.
Glass-door bookcases: the Everton; the Ross, with three glass doors, twelve adjustable shelves and three drawers; the tall, narrow Deloraine; the Cygnet, with glass doors over timber doors; and the Sheffield, with glass doors over six drawers. The Richmond Hutch Bookcase sets open shelves over drawers and panelled doors.

Can custom bookshelves be made in another timber or size?
Yes, freestanding or built in. Any bookcase here can change its width, height, depth, timber and finish, and fitted shelving can be made in solid timber rather than board, as the Regent Library Wall's cornice and face frames are. As drawn, most are 350 mm deep and 1,800 or 2,100 mm high, and they are 700 to 1,500 mm wide: the Cottesloe is the narrowest, the Stanley the widest. The timbers to choose from are Tasmanian Oak, American Walnut, American Oak, Spotted Gum, Blackbutt, Tasmanian Blackwood and Jarrah, and Goldenwood sources others.
How long does a bookcase take, and what does the warranty cover?
A bookcase usually ships 8–14 weeks from design confirmation, and the 10-year warranty covers any defect in its joinery, structure or finish that comes from how it was built, with the hinges and runners of glass doors and drawers guaranteed for the life of the piece.

- How deep should a bookcase be?
- Most in the collection are drawn 350 mm deep. The open Cottesloe and Stanley are 400 mm, and so are the glazed bookcases of the Regent Library Wall.
- Do you make bookcases with glass doors?
- Yes: the Everton, Ross, Deloraine, Cygnet and Sheffield all have them. The Regent Library Wall's bookcases have toughened framed glass doors on soft-close hinges.
- Are the bookcases solid timber?
- Yes, the freestanding ones: most are Tasmanian Oak, the Cottesloe is American Walnut and the Stanley Open is Tasmanian Blackwood. Built-in shelving is engineered board as standard, or timber if you ask for it.
